Apple Watch saved the wrong workout type? Change it.
A hike logged as a walk, a run started as a walk, a class saved as Other: Apple Health keeps the type that was recorded. Fix My Workout saves a corrected copy under the right activity.
How a workout ends up under the wrong type
- Apple Watch noticed you moving and you started the workout it suggested, such as Outdoor Walk on what was a hike.
- You tapped the wrong workout in a hurry, such as Outdoor Run for a treadmill run.
- Another app or device saved the session as Other or under a related activity.
What Apple Health lets you change
In the Health and Fitness apps you can view a workout and delete it, but not change its type. Apps cannot edit a saved workout either. They can save a new one, and that is how the type is corrected.
How to change the workout type
- Open Fix My Workout on iPhone and select the workout. Filter by activity to find it.
- Choose Activity Type and pick the right activity from more than 80 types.
- Set values that fit the new activity if you need them, such as its distance or calories.
- Review the changes. Anything that does not belong to the new activity is listed before you save.
- Save the corrected copy, check it in Fitness and delete the original when you are ready.
What carries over
- Heart rate and active calories carry over to any activity.
- Distance and steps carry over between runs, walks and hikes.
- Measurements that only fit the old activity, such as running power after a change to strength training, are left out and listed in the review.
- A multisport workout keeps its legs and cannot be converted to another activity.
Questions
Can I change the workout type on Apple Watch after the workout?
Not on the watch, in Fitness or in the Health app. Fix My Workout saves a copy of the workout under the right type, and you delete the original afterwards.
Does the original workout change?
No. The corrected copy is a new workout in Apple Health and the original stays as it is until you delete it yourself in Fitness.
